Internships Available

Padmore Publishing offers fun and action-packed internships to special candidates who are seeking to gain college credit in a dynamic workplace. Although this is an entirely unpaid position, candidates receive free books, free coffee, free letters of recommendation (to qualified candidates) and free work experience in an environment full of creative and energetic people.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Editorial Internship

We are interested in applicants that can demonstrate exceptional writing and editing skills, and who are fans of young adult fiction and historical fiction preferably. An ideal candidate will be fully bilingual in English and Spanish, but is not a requisite.

Duties:

Read and evaluate manuscripts for potential publication, conduct research, proofread, check facts, write short book descriptions and author’s bios, list book club’s discussion questions, write and publish original content including book reviews and news updates on our website, among others.

 

Publicity/Marketing Internship

The publicity intern will work closely with the publicity manager in the planning and execution of national and local media campaigns for fiction and children titles, assisting with everything from event planning, to media outreach, to media contact database management.

Duties:

Brainstorm and contribute to media outreach plans, create and manage email and online marketing campaigns targeting readers, libraries and bookstores, draft invites, email letters, and prepare timelines, design and write press releases for books and author events, fulfill all publicity mailings and press kits to media contacts, contribute to the planning and execution of author tours and other book-related events, actively contribute engaging content to Social Media feeds, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, and Snapchat, fostering relationships with readers through social networking, among others. If a book's sales spike due to the intern efforts, there is a potential to make a bonus payment in this field. This potential bonus will kick in if over 350 books for a given project are sold.

 

Design Internship

The design intern will work closely with the Art Director in the planning and execution of book covers and marketing and social media campaigns, assisting with everything from photo and video selection, to the actual design of covers, print materials, and digital promotions. Candidate should have a keen eye for detail, good photo manipulation skills, incredible creative thinking, and previous experience with design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and others necessary for this job.

Duties:

Graphic Designer - Design book covers and stunning layouts for fiction and non-fiction publications, including children’s books. Training in design and formatting methods will be offered, but the candidate should have previous experience with design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and others necessary for this job. Create compelling promotional materials for website pages, media kits, and social media marketing.

Illustrator - Illustrate children’s books and make illustrations for other non-fiction books. Candidate should have previous experience with design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop and others necessary for this job.

Film and video - Create concepts for a video, design and create short videos and animations, shoot short videos. Deliver results within the time frame. Experience with iMovie and other software necessary for this job.

 

  

How to Join our Team

Internships are available in trimesters (May thru August, September thru December and January thru April), during which participants gain experience in all facets of the book publishing process, with an eye toward preparing them for a wide range of entry-level job opportunities. The desired time commitment is typically about ten hours a week, but some of the work can be done from home.  

Requisites for all Internship positions:



  • Strong enthusiasm for reading, writing and sharing stories.
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in Communications or Journalism for the Editorial Internship, in Advertising, PR, Marketing or Social Media for the Publicity/Marketing Internship and in Graphic Design or Film for the Graphic Internship.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively and presenting ideas with clarity and precision. Most of the work can be hand in by email from your home computer. To own a computer and have a High-speed internet connection is a must.
  • Knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Understanding of various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter,  Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.
  • Must be a team player and flourish in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Open to constructive criticism and feedback.
  • Be at least eighteen years old. Able to get college credit for the internship (optional).
Application deadlines:

Rolling submission; applications will be reviewed on a first-come basis.

Application deadlines are as follows:

July 1 for our Fall season (September to December);

November 1 for our Winter/Spring season (January to April);

March 1 for our Summer season (May to August)

If you are interested in being an intern, send an e-mail to editorial@padmorepublishing.com with the words Internship Application in the SUBJECT line of the message, and indicating which position and season you'd like to be considered for.

Editorial and Marketing Internship: Send us a one-page “press release” about yourself, discussing your relevant experience, why you are the best candidate for this job. Also, explain why you chose Padmore Publishing to gain work experience, what do you hope to get out of the internship, why are you passionate about writing and reading, and which are your favorite books. Please, include a copy of your resume.

Graphic designers, illustrators, and videographers: Send us your digital portfolio (a PDF document or a web link), for evaluation. Also attach a copy of your resume.

 

We will make our decision no later than two weeks after the application deadline. We recommend that candidates apply as soon as possible because the competition is fierce. Because of recruiting volume, we are only able to contact those selected for interviews.

Once you start your internship with us, you will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. PLEASE HAVE ALL THE CONTACT INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS FROM THE INTERNSHIP OFFICE OF YOUR SCHOOL.
