Great interest has resurfaced in Truman Capote’s book In Cold Blood after new evidence emerged of the 1959 murders of the Herbert Clutter family. There are two TV series that we know of that are being put together to re-examine the famous case. One, a four-part documentary tentatively titled Murder in the Heartland: In Cold Blood Revisited, is from documentarian Joe Berlinger and Sundance TV and is scheduled for this fall.

The second one is a limited series being produced by Glass Entertainment Group and Daniel H. Birman Productions and will reveal never-before-seen evidence gathered by law enforcement during the original investigation. It will also bring to light newly discovered clues as to what really happened the night the Clutter family was killed.

A statement of Glass Entertainment to reporter  said that they are using information from author Gary McAvoy, who spent five years researching the now 58-year-old murder case and has a new theory of the crime.  Viewers will also hear revelations by a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Kevin Helliker, who has also investigated the case.

Before you hear the new revelations, grab your copy of In Cold Blood and re-read it. If you haven't read it before, now is the time to do so.

It is a good time to re-read In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. It’s a classic of the true crime genre, the one against which all others are judged, and the most disturbing, compelling, book I’ve ever read. The big reveal in In Cold Blood isn’t who killed the Clutter family — you know who murdered Herb, Bonnie and their two teenage kids. The challenge for Capote, and the reason it’s the perfect book to read now, is that he managed to make the story gripping even though you know the end.
