On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwynthe brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addythe beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Natethe criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooperthe athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

But, wait? These are not their names! Weren't they Brian, Claire, John, Andrew, and Allison?

Is this kind of like a retelling of The Breakfast Club? There's a brain, a jock, a princess, and a criminal... Plus a gossip. -Hannah asks on GoodReads to clarify the misunderstanding.

The author, Karen McManus, blushes a little and then addresses the question:

Hi Hannah! Yes, that was the original inspiration -- The Breakfast Club with a criminal twist. I've always been interested in the concept of different types of people being brought together and having to interact with one another, and thought that adding a mystery would raise the stakes in an interesting way.

Uff!!! Mystery solved!

Since her book One of Us is Lying was inspired by such an iconic movie, we wonder if there are talks about a movie version, who would play the characters? How about these young actors?

Luke Bilyk Joe Alwyn Nicole Muñoz Jane Levy George MacKay

What do you think? These photos show that these young actors have the look, the stare, even the head position just right. Would you root for One of Us is Lying to be made into a movie?
